It’s not a secret that the entertainment world can be a mean, cold place, so the heartless actions executed by some from time-to-time should not surprise many. If you have ever thought Good Morning America was over-exposing Robin Roberts health issue, well, you’re not the only one. According to Tom Shales, a known influential television critic writing for the Chicago Sun Times, Good Morning America’s over-the-top coverage of Roberts illness has become another character to the show… here is what he had to say:
“We all wish Robin Roberts well. And we hope she is not being charged with sick days, considering the fact that her illness has practically become another character in the show’s cast.”
In Case your not in the loop, Robin Roberts has been fighting a rare form of blood and bone marrow disorder called MDS Myelodyplastic syndrome, and Good Morning America(GMA) has been constant in speaking about Roberts condition since. It’s understood for GMA to display their well-wishes for Roberts, but their coverage on Roberts’ condition may leave some to believe that the coverage is too much. Shales is saying the program is:
“as newsy these days as Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”
Since then GMA’s ABC News senior VP Jeffrey Schneider has responded saying:
“To be clear, we are keeping faith with our viewers, who are deeply interested in Robin’s journey. We are also mindful that Robin derives strength from the overwhelming outpouring of love. That Tom wouldn’t understand is no surprise here.”
What you think, Does GMA care about Roberts or do they really care about ratings ?
