Racism, ignorance and disrespectful qualities of some individuals just continues to stream like the local ravine with no stop insight. The last thing you would associate racism to is a burger, but unfortunately this is the case. Canada, a country known for its diversity and high tolerance for people of all cultures had a new burger produced to the public at a popular bun and patty spot, which was called Half-Breed, the burger that is. Yeah a Canadian burger called half breed, who would have thought.
Here is the term of Half Breed according to Ryerson University professor Pamela Palmater :
“The term ‘half-breed,’ if you look it up in just about any dictionary, is really a negative, disparaging and offensive term used to describe people of mixed ancestry, specifically people of mixed indigenous and non-indigenous ancestry.
Since the backlash, the burger name has been taken down from the menu.
