There is ignorance out there, but the decision by the Canadian government giving permission to those carrying HIV to keep their status from those they choose to have sex with is just bottom of the bin ignorance. If you are Canadian and value your life, you might want to read carefully what is being reported, because there is no turning around an event should you have unprotected sex with a person carrying the HIV virus.
Here you have the government that is suppose to act as the parent for their citizens, but then chose to place the life of their people at risk by allowing those carrying the HIV virus to have sex with others without disclosing their deadly status. Yes, believe it people… the Canadian government is saying that as long as an HIV carrier wears protection- then he/she does not have to tell you about their HIV status. Just disgusting and a shame of the supreme court in not making a reasonable decision in protecting the lives of its people.
Here is what is being said for the decision being:
The court said it was reflecting the medical advances in treating the virus that causes AIDS since it first ruled on the issue in 1998 and left open the possibility of adapting to future changes in science in medicine.
The court ruled 14 years ago that people with HIV must inform their sex partners of their condition, or face a charge of aggravated sexual assault, which carries a maximum life sentence.
Now, that duty to disclose has been removed as a long as the HIV carrier has a “low load” of the virus and wears a condom.
“On the evidence before us, a realistic possibility of transmission is negated by evidence that the accused’s viral load was low at the time of intercourse and that condom protection was used,” Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin wrote on behalf of the court.
Just completely disgusting, ignorant, mindless and irresponsible of the Canadian Supreme court to pass such a decision. HIV is the path to death for anyone contracting it, and its just surprising that the Canadian government has lifted a law which originally stated that those carrying HIV had to disclose their status to their partners. Clearly the Canadian government doesn’t mind the opinion of their citizens, who clearly want to be informed of their partner’s health status by their partners. Just on the Canadian news website, City Tv, 85% of people stated that they don’t agree with the Supreme Court’s decision.
