Spike Lee Doesn’t Know The Time And Place For Things: Spike Lee Express Anger At Sundance Film Festival

Spike-lee

Spike Lee spewed his anger at the Sundance Film Festival as if he is in the ghetto or around people of ignorance.

Sundance Film Festival is known for  its happy atmosphere, career opportunities amongst many other beautiful highlights, but Spike Lee felt this was the right time to have a flash back on the turbulence he has faced in his professional career and all it took to ignite the already lit flame of anger was Chris Rock asking Spike a question  on Red Hook Summer  on if the film would have been more popular  if it had the financial backing by a studio. This is when Spike surprised the heck out of everyone with his profanity inflamed response, here is what he said:

“We never went to the studios with this film. I bought a camera and said we’re gonna do this motherf—–g film ourselves.[...]I didn’t need a motherf—–g studio telling me something about Red Hook! They know nothing about black people. Nothing. And they’re gonna give me notes about what a young 13-year-old black boy and girl do in Red Hook? F–k no!”

Are you smiling yet, you gotta admit, as much as it’s ignorant, what makes Spike’s comments funny is that its out of the ordinary, and no one probably expected Spike Lee to express such anger at the Sundance Film Festival.

He continues:

“So we need to film ourselves so we wouldn’t have any notes, because we feel there’s a motherf—–g audience for this film — excuse my profanity, my wife is looking at me like I’m crazy — but I don’t know what else we can do. We had to do it ourselves. We shot ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ for twelve days back in 1986. And when I waited for Universal to do the sequel to ‘Inside Man,’ my biggest endeavor, I couldn’t wait any longer! We had to do it ourselves!”

We can’t help but wonder that some of that anger may just be towards Spike’s “best friend,” Tyler Perry. Go over to Concrete Loop to watch Spike Lee on video distributing his anger at Sundance.
