A mistrial has been declared by the judge in the trial case against Reggae Superstar Buju Banton, after a 12 member jury was unable to come to a verdict. Buju is facing charges of conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and illegal possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a crime. He has been in jail since December 2009, and to this date has not been considered or granted bail. We cannot help but notice how buju has been treated unfairly, as a celebrity figure, a professional entertainer, well known in the hip hop community and in other areas within the music industry and for what he is being accused of, he should be shown some respect and be granted bail. Even the way he is hustled into court in chain cuffs, this is not neccessary, he is not a serial killer and their should be a level common decency.
The person(s) who is looking and is getting off on putting Buju through hell, clearly is working hard so that he does not get the media attention someone of Buju’s calibre receives. The way how the case is going, it truly seems as though someone is out to get Buju and this is absolutely unacceptable and not a system of free justice. The thought that he has not been granted bail when there are suspected killers on our streets who have been given this right priviliage, is just absurd.
Especially knowing that the jury could not find him guilty of what he is being accused of, there should be a ground of compassion for him to be freed on bail. As a matter of fact, he should be freed entirely. It is quite evident that the system is doing all they can to find Buju guilty. Why use the term mistrial, if you accused one of doing something and you cannot prove it, that person should be left alone. Jamaicans and his fans should not be jumping for any kind of joy but only feeling a sense of relief right now, because the system always appears to have the upper-hand and seeing how Buji had been treated unfairly in jail in regards to his religion, not being respected in what he has to eat and what he is being accused of that land him there. It is nerve racking watching the case, not knowing what to suspect or what lies will be presented or what will be tweaked to convict him wrongly. Buju is a successful entertainer who has made millions of dollars over the years and has many things in life that he has genuinely purchased which many of us could only dream of, why would he get into the drug trade at this height of his career and after and while making making millions from his music career?
Somebody is seriously working overtime to convict an innocent man of a crime he did not commit. The prosecutor(s), jury, and the courts need to really think about what they are doing to Buju. This is not your everyday person who is living a struggling life and looking for some fast cash, this is man with a net worth of millions of dollars. Why would he engage in the drug trade? Let’s be real here people and use your common sense, it is not just what you are presented with to believe if someone is guilty, it is also the combination of using your common sense. Buju is an iconic figure throughout the world and a wealthy person; there is no reason for him to being entering the drug trade.
The thing that needs to be understood by the general public when it comes to celebrity status is the jealousy, extorting, harm, and entrapment that often plaque the rich and famous by those with their agenda to harm or to punish for only reasons known to the doer. When did it become right to punish someone for their thoughts, this is suppose to be a country of freedom- punishing this man for his thoughts, goes against all that America stands for. Please have a heart, use common sense and not just only apply what is stored before you. Please use the system for what it is intended for and not for vengeance. Free Buju Banton back to his fans worldwide and to his people of Jamaica
